Ford Recall: Many Truck Models Included in Recall

Ford Motor Company recalled certain model trucks for failing to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 108, Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment. The multi-function switch was shipped with a slider sub-component that may experience deformation. A multi-function switch with a deformed slider may malfunction causing the turn signal, tail lights, hazard warning signal flashers and/or brake lights not to activate. If any of these lights fail to activate, it could increase the risk of a crash.

The recall is expected to being on or before August 15, 2011 and affects nearly 27,000 vehicles. At that time, dealers will replace the switches free of charge.

Chrysler Recalls Dodge Ram Trucks

Chrysler recalled certain model Dodge Ram trucks because the left tie rod ball stud may fracture. This condition tends to occur during low speed parking lot type maneuvers when the driver is making a tight turn. The condition could result in the loss of directional stability in the left hand front wheel, increasing the risk of a crash. Additionally, model year 2003-2008 Dodge Ram 2500/3500 vehicles may have received the affected tie rod assembly as a replacement part during normal service.

Chrysler has yet to provide an owner notification schedule for the 242,780 vehicles affected by this recall. Once notified, the owner will be instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to have the tie rod ends inspected for relative orientation, to have the left outer tie rod replaced as required and to align the front end toe as needed, free of charge. Information on this and other recalls may be found at safercar.gov.

GM Recalls 2011 Escalade, Silverado, Suburban, Tahoe, Sierra and Yukon Vehicles

General Motors recalled certain model year 2011 Cadillacs, Chevrolets and GMCs. The recall was issued due to intermediate steering shaft attaching bolts that may not have been tightened to the proper specification. The 2011 models included in the recall are:

  • Cadillac Escalade
  • Cadillac Escalade ESV 1500
  • Cheverolet Silverado
  • Chevrolet Suburban 1500
  • Chevrolet Tahoe
  • GMC Sierra
  • GMC Yukon
  • GMC Yukon XL1500

If the steering linkage bolts are not tightened to the proper specification, it could allow the joints to separate and the driver could experience loss of steering, increasing the risk of a crash. Approximately 750 vehicles are affected by this recall, which is due to begin on or before July 13, 2011. For more information, visit safercar.gov.

GM Recalls 2011 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon Vehicles

General Motors recalled certain model year 2011 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon passenger vehicles equipped with a 2.9 or 3.7 liter engine and a 4-speed automatic transmission. These vehicles fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 102, titled “Transmission Shift Lever Sequence, Starter Interlock and Transmission Braking Effect,” and FMVSS No. 114, titled “Theft Protection.”

The 6,768 vehicles affected by this recall may have been built with an automatic transmission adjustment clip that may not retain the shift cable in the correct position. If the shift cable is not in the correct position, the PRNDL shift lever may not accurately reflect the position of the transmission gear. The driver may mistakenly think that the car is in park and exit the vehicle. The vehicle could roll away striking a person around the vehicle or could result in a crash without prior warning.

The recall is set to begin on or about July 19, 2011. At that time, GM dealers will install a new automatic transmission adjustment clip at no cost. Go to safercar.gov for more information.

Recall on 2011 Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep Vehicles

On June 7, 2011, Chrysler issued a recall on certain 2011 models of Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep. The Chrysler recall potentially affects 11,351 units. The recall was issued because some of these vehicles may have been built with a missing or incorrectly installed steering column pivot rivet.

A missing or incorrectly installed pivot rivet could compromise the ability of the steering column to support the occupant loads in the event of a frontal crash. This could decrease the effectiveness of the frontal impact safety system, increasing the potential for injury in a frontal crash.

This recall includes the following 2011 models:

  • Chrysler 200
  • Chrysler 200 Convertible
  • Chrysler Town & Country
  • Dodge Avenger
  • Dodge Caliber
  • Dodge Grand Caravan
  • Dodge Journey
  • Dodge Nitro
  • Jeep Compass
  • Jeep Liberty
  • Jeep Patriot
  • Jeep Wrangler

The safety recall is expected to begin in June 2011. At that time, dealers will inspect for rivet presence and alignment and do needed repairs on the steering column pivot, free of charge. For more information on this Chrysler recall, visit safercar.gov.

Volvo 2012 S60 Recall

Volvo recalled approximately 450 S60s on June 3, 2011. The recall was on certain model year 2012 S60 passenger cars manufactured from January 18, 2011 through January 28, 2011. The male end of the fuel line quick connect was manufactured with dimensions out of specification, leading to excessive assembly force on the female connector assembly and the possibility that the locking function may not be engaged.

The 448 Volvo S60s affected by this recall may stall if the quick connector were to detach, increasing the risk of a crash. The customer may notice a fuel smell and leakage. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source could result in a fire.

The recall is expected to begin in June 2011. Volvo dealers will replace the fuel line at no charge to the consumer. More information on motor vehicle recalls is available on safercar.gov.
