Recall on 2010 Hyundai Tucson
Hyundai recalled certain model year 2010 Tucson vehicles manufactured between February 27, 2010 and April 17, 2010. These vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 108, for the photometry requirements of the rear reflector assemblies installed in the rear bumpers of 7,829 units.
The problems with the reflective devices could lead to reduced visibility of the rear of the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash. The safety recall is expected to begin during June 2011 and, at that time, dealers will replace the rear reflector assemblies at no charge.
Rear End Collision Lawyer
Contrary to popular belief, not every vehicle that rear ends another vehicle is automatically considered liable. If you rear ended a car that did not have proper reflective devices, you may not be at fault. Each rear end collision case needs to be thoroughly investigated to determine liability.
Pritzker Olsen attorneys rigorously investigate every serious accident and they have won millions for people whose loved ones were killed in Minnesota car accidents. Call 1-888-377-8900 (toll free) for a free consultation with a Minnesota Car Accident Lawyer or submit our contact form.
Toyota Recall Certain 2011 Tundra Trucks
On April 26, 2011, Toyota announced a voluntary safety recall on approximately 51,000, 2011 model year Tundra trucks to inspect the rear drive shaft. The rear drive shaft in some of the Tundra trucks may include a slip yoke that could break due to improper casting during the foundry process. If the rear drive shaft were to break while driving, there would be an increased risk of crash.
To date, Toyota is aware of one drive shaft slip yoke failure in a customer-owned vehicle. There are no reports of accidents or injuries associated with this recall. No other Lexus or Toyota vehicles are involved in this recall.
If you own a 2011 Toyota Tundra, you may need to have it inspected by a Toyota service technician. Based upon the inspection results, in a limited number of cases, the rear drive shaft may need to be replaced. The inspection and / or replacement will be performed at no cost to the vehicle owner.
Owners of the involved vehicles will receive a letter advising them of this recall starting in May 2011. Toyota will also post this information on its website, www.toyota.com/recall. To speak to a Toyota representative you may call Toyota Customer Experience Center at 1-800-331-4331.

Drunk Driving May be Cause of Fatal Head-On Accident in Minneapolis
Minneapolis police are awaiting test results to determine if Connie Stroud was drunk when she drove the wrong way on an I-94 ramp and hit the Vang family’s car head on. An unborn child was killed, and the mother, Tao Thao, is still in critical condition. Yia Vang, Tao Thao’s husband, and five children between the ages of 3 and 10 were also injured in the crash.
Tao Thao has been the sole breadwinner in the family since Yia Vang was laid off of his welding job.
A benefit fund has been set up in Yia Vang’s name. Donations can be taken at all Wells Fargo locations.
Lao Thao, Tao Thao’s brother has asked the community for help because the Vang family is not able to buy food or clothes or to pay for housing.
Minnesota Dram Shop Laws: Holding Sellers of Liquor Accountable
State Patrol spokesman Capt. Matt Langer told the Star Tribune that Connie Stroud, 42, of Minneapolis, “had way too much to drink to be driving.” She was driving a Toyota pickup truck. Given the size of Ms. Stroud’s vehicle, it is amazing more people from the Vang family were not killed.
It has not been reported where Ms. Stroud drank before she drove, but if it was a “dram shop,” that establishment could be liable for the wrongful death of Jaylee Chang Vang, the unborn child who was killed in the head-on crash, and the injuries suffered by Tao Thao, Yia Vang and the other children.
Minnesota law holds dram shops responsible for the dangerous actions of an intoxicated person when they illegally sell liquor to that person. Dram shops can include bars, liquor stores, restaurants, social clubs, and even private events where liquor is sold.
Under Minnesota Statutes, Section 340.801, Subdivision 1:
A spouse, child, parent, guardian, employer, or other person injured in person, property, or means of support, or who incurs other pecuniary loss by an intoxicated person or by the intoxication of another person, has a right of action in the person’s own name for all damages sustained against a person who caused the intoxication of that person by illegally selling alcoholic beverages.

School Bus Accident Kills Minneapolis Pedestrian
The Minneapolis City Attorney’s Office is reviewing police reports for possible charges against a school bus driver who ran into and killed a pedestrian who was in a crosswalk and had a walk sign.
The victim of Tuesday’s school bus accident near downtown Minneapolis has been identified as Theodore Q. Larson, 81, of Coon Rapids.
According to police reports quoted in the Star Tribune newspaper, the Minnesota bus-pedestrian accident happened about 2:20 p.m. when the bus was turning left from E. 15th Street onto Park Avenue.
The driver reportedly told police he didn’t see the man.
It was the second fatal motor vehicle accident to happen near downtown Minneapolis in daylight hours in two weeks. Last week, a bicyclist was killed at E. 14th Street and Park Avenue when he was struck by a semitractor trailer that was turning left. Reports stated that bicyclist Dennis Dumm, 31, was struck when the truck driver took a wide left turn.
Both accidents involve legal principles that are best understood by lawyers who have years of experience representing victims and their next of kin in wrongful death actions. The attorneys at Minnesota-based Pritzker Olsen, P.A., specialize in motor vehicle accidents — including motor vehicle-bicycle collisions — and have collected tens of millions of dollars for victims and survivors of serious crashes.
Accidents involvings school buses, for instance, involve state and federal laws because the buses are classified as common carriers and are obligated to operate with a higher level of safety. Pritzker Olsen understands the liabilities of bus companies in bus accident lawsuits.
